Cyote's SpookHouse Reviews
Normal, Illinois, 4/6/97

by EYoch

The town of Normal was not too high on last night's show. Debate had been waged on the front page over whether the show should be held. One headline was "Interview with the Devil?"

Articles alluded to possible "animal sacrifice" and the satanic influence on the town's youth. Candlelight vigils were held all weekend by christian groups.

Before the actual show, masses of christians came to the arena, passing out literature. Manson fans burned it, as well as bibles. Police and camera crews were running all over to catch the action.

The show was the best I have seen. As someone posted earlier, the set added Tourniquet (with a remixed ending), Suck for Your Solution, Apple of Sodom, and Kinderfeld (featuring the famous stilts, long crutches, and a bionic helmet with a microphone).

I was on the barricade, just right of center, in front of Zim Zum. The security, one guy in particular, was getting rough with the fans. Zim was getting pissed at the one guard, and was yelling at him, standing on the lip of the stage and flicking him off. Zim stepped off stage, and a Manson guard, Harry, came out and told the guard to leave, motioning to Zim. The guard got booted and and Manson guard resumed the post. Zim flicked the guard off as he was leaving and was obviously very mad.

Manson made some references to the protestors, "There are a lot of people praying for you out there tonight.... A lot of people didn't want you to be here tonight, and I am proud of you for coming...." Whether it is true or not, one security guy I was talking to said the night before, in the first 30 seconds of the set, two people got there eads "busted" and three people broke there legs. Take it as true or leave it, I don't know.

This crowd was pretty tame, very young. At least on the floor, most of the fans were probably 13-17 and didn't do much but jump up and down and get passed over the barricade. I felt very old as a college student.

Over all, an unbelievable show.
