ZIM ZUM, the former Marilyn Manson guitarist has denied rumours that he had a major falling-out with the band over the musical direction on upcoming new album 'Mechanical Animals'.
"To say we didn't agree musically is far from true," say Zim Zum, who appears on 12 of the 14 songs on the new record. "We were very creative in the studio: we wrote a song a day for 14 days and the chemistry was as perfect as it gets."
Zim Zum claims he decided to quit Manson in order to pursue his own musical goals. And he didn't want to go out on tour for the next 18 months solid.
"One day, Ginger (Fish) the drummer, Pogo the keyboardist, and myself were in an empty studio, with Sean Beavan, who engineered the new album, and we recorded songs that were our own. When I recorded one of my songs during this session, that's probably when I relised that touring isn't what I wanted to do."
And, whilst he's been replaced by Johnnie 5 in the Marilyn Manson line-up, Zim Zum also hints that the door is still open for him to work with Manson again.
"When I left the house, I said, 'You've got my number'. You know, I feel as excited leaving the band as I did coming into it. I came into the band talking to Manson on the phone for two hours about Iggy Pop and Bowie, and I wanted to go out the same way. So, I met him and we sat down and left it at a point where it's an open door."
Marilyn Manson release 'Mechanical Animals' through Nothing/Interscope on September 14. A single, 'The Dope Show', follows on October 12.
MARILYN MANSON have confirmed that Zim Zum has left the band. He's been replaced by mysteriously-named newcomer, Johnnie 5.
Kerrang! reported last week that there were strong rumours that the guitarist had been fired by Manson, although at the time no official sources would comment on this. However, in the last few days it has been announced that Zim Zum is no longer part of the Manson family, although no reason for his departure has yet been give.
Manson have wasted no time in hiring Johnnie 5 to take over from Zim Zum. And although the new guitarist's real name is being kept a closely guarded secret at present, Kerrang! understands that Johnnie 5 is none other than John Lowery - who was until recently in Rob Halford's band Two, and also plays on the new David Lee Roth album, 'DLR Band'.
Marilyn Manson will release their new LP, which (as we exclusively revealed last week) is titled 'Mechanical Animals', through Nothing/Interscope on September 14.
