News: Will Zim Zum Save Us?
Having spent at least the last 18-months in self imposed exile in
Chicago, IL, former Marilyn Manson guitarist Zim Zum has finally
allowed the world in to hear what he has been recording. The first track,
"Who Will Save Us Now" from his new band, Pleistoscene has been
released via their very bizarre (in a good way) web site.
Zim has clearly tapped the industrial vibe that Chicago has become
known for. "Who Will Save Us Now" recalls the heady days of Wax Trax
Records and their artists. While one distinct influence isn’t apparent,
this track could easily have come from Ministry, Pigface or KMFDM
when they were pushing the industrial sound boundary. Even those
who think Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson are the harbingers of
this style of music should enjoy the song.
Granted, it’s the first song from an artist who retains utmost secrecy
regarding his music. Rather frustrating when you’re very interested in
hearing more. All the tracks have been recorded in his home studio and
as he explained last year, "I built a studio in one of the rooms in my
house and sat down and just basically started recording. It's based
around moods and to pinpoint, like, a specific sound reference from a
mood is really difficult because the songs shift from one bar to the next.
Typical songs, especially a lot of songs that you hear on the radio today
are formatted and very commercial, like verse chorus verse and then
chorus chorus."
